White Dove
Earlier this week as I stepped outside to refill the bird feeders, I startled a flock of doves feeding on the ground not too far from the door. When I glanced up, I was very surprised to see a pure white bird flying just behind the doves. I didn’t get a good look at it since I was almost as startled as the doves, but from what I could tell, it was a bit bigger than the mourning doves.
Today, the white dove was back and I got a few pictures of it. It was about the size of a crow as you can see in the picture. I would assume it was a domesticated dove that was released at some sort of ceremony and it somehow managed to survive in the wild.
I don’t know what species it was exactly as there are several species of white doves & pigeons. My guess based on a few internet searches is a white homing pigeon.
