Our First Hummingbird Feeder

The first year we put out our new hummingbird feeder and didn't see any activity until late July. We had just about given up! The feeder is from Ollie's The base is plastic and the top decorative part is metal with a glass reservoir. Using a piece of copper wire I fashioned a perch beneath each feeder flower. The flowers have faded but I have repainted them with food safe paint. We would like to replace it with one that is easier to clean but the birds love this feeder. Each year, we always see the birds at this feeder first.

2023-05-15 House Wren in Bluebird Nest Box

This is our first year that we have observed house wrens in our backyard and we were worried that they would take over the bluebird nest boxes that we put up on our fence. And it happened!   But on a positive note, we haven’t seen the bluebirds recently so we believe that the baby bluebirds that we heard in the nest box were able to leave the nest.  We cleaned out the wren’s dummy nest and are hoping that we see the bluebirds again. From what I’ve read, it’s not unusual for bluebirds to raise more than one brood per year. House Wren
